We acquired our fig tree about 6 years ago. And quiet honestly, I don't remember where; possibly at a farm swap held in the local feed store parking lot. It was a single limb sticking out of a pot with a few leaves but no indication as to what variety it was (we've since come to believe it's a Chicago Hardy). It took about three years to get a decent crop but since then, it gets better each year.

Now the tree is three times as tall as us and bearing a nice crop.  We like eating them fresh and for making jam.

If you've never had fig jam, give it a try. It's delicious! It also pairs well with savory foods and it's a nice addition to charcuterie boards.

Last year we tried our hand at rooting some cuttings just as the tree was beginning to come out of its winter dormancy.

We got some surprisingly good results. See those white dots on the stems in the photo to the left? Those will become roots for the new fig tree. They appeared about two weeks after having the cuttings in water. And notice the green emerging buds in the photo to the below? Those are the beginning of  leaves.

Time to get these potted and ready for their new homes.
